Redd Velvet is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on December 29, 1968 in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. Jus’Blues Foundation nominated Redd Velvet as “Best Female Artist of the Year 2011”.
In 2016 award-winning journalist Toure’ wrote an article in Smithsonian Magazine praising Redd velvet for her powerful performances and work to preserve the history and heritage of the blues as an African-American art form. At the urging of Toure’ and blues vocalist Teeny Tucker, Redd Velvet created “I Am The Blues”, the only live, interactive blues exhibit showcasing the evolution of blues music from the shores of Africa to the twenty-first century.
Velvet released her first album Womanhood 101 on December 10, 2010. She did so through the Banana Pudding Music label, which she started after refusing to sign a traditional recording contract. Living Blues Magazine praised Womanhood 101 as the beginning of a new chapter in contemporary blues.
Redd is best known for her unusual entry into the music business. However, her work as a registered nurse as well as social activist for causes like domestic violence, women’s right, and child/sexual abuse has been widely recognized. Music Heals Memphis, Incorporated was founded by Redd Velvet in 2010. This non-profit organization provides social and health services to musicians, promotes racial harmony, and preserves blues and soul music. Her work as a nurse advocate and nurse was proclaimed by the Commercial Appeal “Blues Angel”.
In March 2011, Redd Velvet became the first blueswoman to create and host a radio talk show. The show was created to meet public demand from loyal followers of her posts on a social networking site. The Little Redd Schoolhouse debuted on March 3, 2011, on WMQM, a Memphis-based radio station.
