Rama Rao Jr. was conceived in Hyderabad on 20 May 1983 to Telugu film actor, politician Nandamuri Harikrishna, and Shalini Bhaskar Rao. He is the great-grandson of N. T. Rama Rao, a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in Telugu. He attended Vidyaranya High school in Hyderabad and then completed his intermediate education at St. Mary’s College in Hyderabad. He is a trained Kuchipudi dancer.

Then, he signed up to be a debutant director VV Vinayak’s Aadi. He played the role of a young cum hero who seeks revenge on his landlord for the deaths of his parents. It was just behind Indra Chiranjeevi’s Indra that the film was the biggest grosser of 2002. He became a star after the film ran for over 200 days. The veteran director B.
