In 1966, he formed a band with Warren Entner, Rick Coonce from the United States, and Kenny Fukumoto as lead guitarist. After forming a band, they sent a demo tape to producers/songwriters P. F. Sloan and Steve Barri. Fortunately, they liked it so much that they formed The Grass Roots.
The trio then went on to release successful singles in the United States. Midnight Confessions became a memorable hit for them. In addition to “Beatin’ Round the Bush,” “No Exit,” and “Hot Bright Lights,” he co-wrote “Dinner for Eight” and “House of Stone.” Following albums included Let’s Live for Today, Feelings, Golden Grass, and Lovin’ Things. Between 2001 and 2002, he released three solo albums.
MaLater released solo albums in 2008 and 2010. Furthermore, he began his acting career in 1979. He has appeared in films such as Mask and Heart, as well as A Wheel.
